Griffin Termly News
New for September!
Just to let you know that we are sure as we can be about new admission arrangement across the city for September. This means that instead of children starting school in the term in which they are five, they will start at the beginning of the year in which they are five. This means that instead of children starting school in September or January or after Easter, they will all start in September.
This will give all children the same length of time in school overall instead of being at a disadvantage because of when they are born.
Their activity in school will be directly linked to their developmental stage - just as it is now. The staff in the nursery and school will become a Foundation Stage Unit and will work together very closely - just as they do now to make sure that your children get the best possible provision.
It will also mean that there will be nursery places available for three year olds, so watch for this.
If your child is due to start school between September 2007 and August 2008, we will be sending you more information about this as soon as we have it.

PE and games for Area 4 are on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please ensure that your child has clothes suitable for outdoor PE, especially footwear.
Other Information:
Year 6 children will soon be given the opportunity of taking part in a cycling safety programme in school. To take part, they will have to have a road worthy cycle (this will be checked over on the first session by a member of the road safety education department) and if possible a cycle helmet. We do have a limited number of cycle helmets that can be used at school, but obviously it is much better if your child has their own for both comfort and safety.
Year 6 will also begin to get their induction dates for secondary school through soon. Please watch out for details as these will possibly be sent to you directly from your child's new school.

Reading..Reading..Reading
Although we can teach your child to read at school, we are very constrained by time to help your child practise their reading at school. Please try to hear your child read every day for ten minutes. All children at school are encouraged to bring their reading book home every evening as long as they return it the following day.
If you could spare any time during the day to come into school to hear readers we would love to hear from you.
Indoor Shoes
We are reminding children this term that they need to have a change of shoes in school, that they can put on when they take off their outdoor shoes. Not only is this important from a grubby sock point of view, it is also important for your child to have something on their feet in the event of the fire alarm going off. Whether it is rain, sun or snow, if the alarm goes off and your child has nothing but socks on they will still have to go outside for their own safety. They will not have the time to put on their outdoor shoes. Please help us to make your child as comfortable in school as we can, by reminding them to bring in either sand shoes, an old pair of shoes or trainers or even a pair of slippers that they can get changed into.
Changes of shoes should be clearly labelled so that they will not get lost. A lot of misplaced or lost shoes end up as such, due to it being difficult to track down their owners.
